The organisation behind this event, underwater australasia is a major portal for divers with a focus on the Australasia region. It was created in 2002 by divers for divers as a comprehensive information resource and to provide a virtual meeting place for the Australasia dive community and anybody else interested in underwater Australasia.
The main players behind underwater australasia, Tim and Wandy Hochgrebe are an active couple committed to promoting diving in the region - also running Planula Divers Retreat in Byron Bay as well as Planula Photo & Video, both established in 2000. Tim & Wandy have been active in the dive industry for nearly 20 years.
The Underwater Festival™ started in 2006 as a local event in Byron Bay, then moved around Australia in 2010 (Christmas Island) and from 2011 became an Australasia-wide shootout and Festival and is now firmly established as a 'must-be-there' event on any image making divers calendar. From 2015 we are going global with partnership of our friends at X-Ray Magazine.
Our mission as a whole is to promote the amazing variety of diving in Australia, Oceania and the Asia Pacific to the world. underwater australasia will always be up to date and be full of interesting content.
If you are a member of the industry dealing with anything underwater in Australasia (or globally from 2015), please contact us to become a part of our various endevours. If you are a diver or just passionate about the underwater world of Australasia, we would love to hear your comments on this and our other sites, publish your photos and stories and host your discussions with likeminded people.
We are always looking for volunteers for the Underwater Project, if you are interested, please get in touch.
