- Description
- Humpack whales migrate every year to the warm sheltered water of Tonga to mate, give birth and nurse their babies. It is allowed to swim with them. That day we found a settled mother and calf. The mother was sleeping below us. The calf was regularly coming up for air and approached us on a few occasions.
The Tongan humpback population has not recovered as well as others and is still vulnerable. It really is a privilege to be able to observe those animals.
